Background

When I look back now, I realise that my journey to becoming a practitioner began when, full of nerves and trepidation, I first started attending for Curative Hypnotherapy treatment myself. Most of my life had been plagued by various emotional / behavioural conditions and I had at this point exhausted all the standard treatments, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Counselling, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) and even standard hypnotherapy.  This treatment was literally my last hope. The standard, mainstream treatments had succeeded previously only in getting me back on my feet temporarily; sometimes for a few months, sometimes for a year or so... but eventually some trigger would come along and trip me up and I would find myself back at square one. I felt like I was existing rather than living; struggling to make it from one day to the next, any hope of getting my life back dwindling ever further into the distance.

I kept looking for the catch...

As I soon found out, my worries in attending for treatment were to prove completely unfounded. The therapy was not only gentle but completely non-intrusive, requiring no ‘re-living’ of any traumatic past events or their associated emotions. Not only this, but there was to be no ‘testing’ of my fears through desensitisation techniques (which I had always found, in and of themselves, extremely stressful). In fact all I was asked to do at the end of each session was to listen to a relaxing CD.  I kept looking for the catch… but there wasn’t one!

I went from strength to strength...

Having originally trained in Law and spent many years working in law firms, I had long ago realised it wasn't for me. My interest in the mind and the mind-body connection spanned back decades, my own difficulties having previously inspired me to study psychology and even to undertake courses in counselling.  And for a long time, I had dreamed of becoming a therapist of some kind.  But of course, I had never been well enough to contemplate taking things further… until now of course!  My own treatment had changed all that; changed my life in fact!  All sorts of doors and opportunities were suddenly open to me and I  began to dream again, a flicker of hope igniting within me; hope that maybe, just maybe, I could in fact realise my dream of helping others after all – maybe it wasn’t too late!

...and began to dream again...

As treatment progressed, I started seeing some real positive changes and, even after concluding my sessions, I continued to go from strength to strength, achieving more than I had ever dreamed possible. I was finally starting to live again and not just exist, as I had done for such a very long time. Events and situations that had previously proved major obstacles to me were now simply of no consequence and failed to have their previous negative effect on me.  And it wasn’t a case of having to ‘manage’ or ‘cope’ in these situations either; the issues I had had previously simply just weren’t there any more! Whereas I had previously struggled to make it from one day to the next, I now found myself beginning to finally function as a normal human being once more; something I hadn’t been able to do for… well, as long as I could remember!

Why Curative Hypnotherapy?

So why didn’t I continue with my counselling or psychology training?  Why did I opt to change direction and study Curative Hypnotherapy? Well, whilst attending treatment, I had quickly found myself intrigued by the highly analytical and logical approach of the therapy and, upon completing treatment, astounded by the dramatic and permanent results achieved for myself personally...

Curative Hypnotherapy asks the WHY behind the Symptom...

...Crucially, however, I feel that Curative Hypnotherapy takes that one vital step further than standard treatments and therapies, asking WHY the symptom is needed and what purpose it is serving. Standard treatments and therapies focus on WHEN the issue started or WHAT has led to the manifestation of the symptom, which is all very well and good in helping a person to better understand their reactions, thought processes and behaviours with a view to helping them to manage their issue or condition. But why simply learn to ‘manage’ or ‘cope’ when it is possible to address and correct the Root Cause and dispose of the issue once and for all? Curative Hypnotherapy therefore takes a very different approach; working with, instead of against, the subconscious and asking the WHY behind the symptom. By correcting the faulty underlying information, we remove the need or reason for the symptom, enabling the sufferer to dispose of their problem and leaving them free to live the life they truly deserve!

Dramatic and permanent results...

With proven success in treating various mental health conditions but equally physical ailments too, the highly analytical yet logical approach of Curative Hypnotherapy greatly appealed to me. Moreover, having had first-hand experience of the dramatic and permanent results that it could achieve when compared to the temporary alleviation of symptoms I had experienced through other mainstream treatments, my interest was well and truly piqued!  I wanted to spread the word and, if possible, gain the skills required for me to be able to apply this unique therapy to the benefit of others.

I found myself hooked and wanting to learn more...

I soon started reading up on the subject (see 'Reading' for details) and, needless to say, soon found myself hooked and wanting to learn more. I quickly signed up for the foundation course and, upon successful completion, went on to complete my training, ultimately gaining my Practice Certificate.
